Éire Óg’s 1-23 to 1-20 victory over holders Clonlara in Round 2 of the Clare SHC last weekend came at a cost when Shane O’Donnell limped off with a hamstring injury.

The long-serving forward, who is tipped to be named Hurler of the Year after starring in the Banner’s All-Ireland SHC triumph, suffered a recurrence of the injury in the 40th minute, not long after finding the net for the Ennis outfit. Despite also defeating Clooney Quin in the opening round, Éire Óg aren’t yet assured of a quarter-final spot ahead of their final group match against Tony Kelly’s Ballyea.

"He's a bit disconsolate now at the moment," manager Gerry O'Connor told TG4 afterwards.

"He went for a ball over there and he felt it so look we couldn't take any more risks on that. He's in a little bit of bother but we'll reassess things again later on this evening.”
