Limerick manager John Kiely has led the tributes to former Gaelic Grounds groundsman Willie Mulcahy, who sadly passed away on Thursday.
89-year-old Mulcahy was a long-serving member of the Na Piarsaigh club in Caherdavin and often travelled on the Limerick team bus to games involving the county hurling and football teams, including the All-Ireland U21 final victory over Wexford five years ago.
"Very sorry to hear of the passing of the Great Willie Mulcahy our former Groundsman at the Gaelic Grounds. Always a warm welcome for every player and mentor," two-time Limerick All-Ireland SHC winning boss Kiely wrote on Twitter.
"If Willie wasn’t impressed your time was short.. Not a prouder man to be on the bus home from Thurles in 2015. R.I.P."
A clubmate of Mulcahy's, former county hurler Shane Dowling said: "Very sad to hear of the passing of the legend Willie Mul. He was some character! RIP Willie"
