Louth secured promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon thanks to a 0-22 to 2-8 win over Longford at Dowdalshill.

After trailing by 1-7 to 0-7 at half-time, Trevor Hillard’s side produced the goods in the second-half with marksman Darren Geoghegan very much to the fore for them as he finished with a dozen points to his name.

The teams would be all square 12 minutes into the second-half before a Martin Farrell penalty put Longford up by three points once more.

The Wee County battled back and eventually levelled things up again with a superb Sean Flynn point with 15 minutes remaining and, after that, it was the accuracy of Geoghegan which helped steer Louth over the line towards promotion.

Elsewhere, Lancashire made their goals count in a 4-20 to 0-20 win against Monaghan in Inniskeen, while Fermanagh moved up to second place the table thanks to a 0-21 to 1-16 win over Leitrim in Enniskillen which means victory against Lancashire in two weeks’ time will see them into the Division 4 final alongside Louth.
