Tipperary moved to the top of the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 table thanks to a 1-22 to 0-19 win over Wexford at Semple Stadium.
After blowing away Galway last weekend, Liam Cahill’s men backed up that victory with a solid performance on home turf against the Model men to make it two wins from two.
Darragh McCarthy’s accurate frees helped the hosts lead by 0-12 to 0-8 at the break and Andrew Ormond and Oisin O’Donoghue would raise white flags for them in the opening minute of the second-half.
Cian Byrne and Darren Codd sailed over points that helped Wexford trim their deficit down to three, but Tipp got motoring again and landed a Jake Morris point ahead of Craig Morgan winning a penalty for them after being dragged down by Richie Lawlor.
McCarthy expertly tucked away the penalty to make it 1-17 to 0-12 with a dozen minutes left in normal time and, while the Leinster side fought to the finish, Tipp weren’t going to be denied as McCarthy and Willie Connors rounded off their winning tally.
