Cork got their new season up and running thanks to a comfortable 1-15 to 0-10 victory over Waterford at Fraher Field.
All funds raised at this afternoon’s senior hurling challenge match in Dungarvan benefited the Friends of Brian Greene Fundraiser in conjunction with Waterford Hospice, with the game itself seeing the visitors making a strong start before powering to an eight-point win.
The Rebels were 0-8 to 0-1 in front when Declan Dalton latched on to possession and fired in the game's only goal on 18 minutes.
Pat Ryan’s side went on to lead by 1-11 to 0-3 at half-time and, while Shane Bennett and Willie Beresford pulled back scores in the second-half for the hosts, it was last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists that pulled up winning in the end.
