Robert Downey has been named Cork senior hurling team captain for the 2025 season.
The Glen Rovers clubman succeeds fellow defender Sean O’Donoghue in the role after the latter served as Rebels skipper for the past two seasons.
An integral part of his county’s defence, 25-year-old Downey played a key role as the Leesiders reached the All-Ireland SHC final this past summer.
A statement from Cork GAA released this morning confirmed their new hurling captain for the forthcoming campaign, with Blarney’s Shane Barrett appointed as the team’s vice-captain.
