The standout result of Round 1 of the Derry SFC last weekend was Slaughtneil's 1-11 to 0-11 victory over All-Ireland club champions Glen.

Shane McGuigan scored the only goal after his penalty had rebounded from the post as the former kingpins ended Glen's three-year unbeaten run in their own championship. Glen's form has been patchy since they lifted the Andy Merrigan Cup on St Patrick's Day, but they will still be expected to emerge from Group 1, which is considered to be the stronger of the two six-team groups.

In last weekend's other first round ties, Bellaghy defeated Kilrea 2-13 to 2-10, Swatragh overcame Dungiven by 4-12 to 2-7, Magherafelt accounted for Steelstown by 0-11 to 0-3, while Ballinascreen and Loup drew 1-9 to 0-12.
