Jarlath Burns became the first serving GAA president to attend a soccer match at Windsor Park last evening.

Burns, who only assumed the presidency last Saturday, attended Northern Ireland’s UEFA Women’s Nations League play-off second leg against Montenegro at the south Belfast venue. The Armagh man said his attendance was “an important statement to send out to the people of Northern Ireland that the GAA is inclusive.”

Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill was also a guest at Windsor Park, which is also the home of Linfield FC.

Meanwhile, a UEFA delegation is currently in Belfast looking at the technical aspect of preparations for EURO 2028. Casement Park, which has finally received the green light for redevelopment, is one of a list of venues in the UK and Ireland due to host games at the tournament.
