The Offaly senior hurlers have turned down the chance to go on a team holiday.

As a result of reaching last summer’s Joe McDonagh Cup final, they received a grant of €60,000 towards a holiday. But instead, the panel and management requested that it be spent on training costs.

Despite losing the second-tier final to Carlow, few could say that Offaly didn’t deserve a break away after playing 11 games in 12 weeks last spring, in the middle of which they won Division 2A of the National League.

That secured their ticket back to Division 1 and the focus is now on trying to retain their top-flight status with a very tough schedule of games against Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Cork and Clare coming up in February and March.
