Naas became the first team in over 40 years to complete a five-in-a-row of Kildare SHC titles at Manguard Park yesterday.
Cousins Jack Sheridan and Brian Byrne raised green flags in a comfortable 3-13 to 0-11 victory over Coill Dubh. Byrne’s 19th minute goal was the crucial score in a keenly-contested opening half, at the end of which the town side held a 1-7 to 0-6 lead.
Two Declan Flaherty frees after the restart halved the deficit but, sensing the danger, Naas stepped on the gas after that and two goals from Sheridan – who top-scored with 2-8 – in the last 10 minutes settled it for once and for all.
Naas will attempt to pull off a third consecutive double next Sunday when their footballers face Celbridge in the Kildare SFC final at Netwatch Cullen Park.
