Brian Dowling has been proposed as the new Kildare senior hurling manager, just two months after stepping down as Kilkenny camogie boss.

The two-time All-Ireland winning camogie manager and former Kilkenny hurler will succeed fellow countyman David Herity in the Lilywhites hotseat. His appointment will be ratified at next Tuesday’s county board meeting.

During his four seasons in charge of the Kilkenny camogs, Dowling won the O'Duffy Cup in 2020 and '22 as well as a National League title in 2021 and four Leinster titles. He also guided the famous Kilkenny hurling nursery St Kieran’s College - where he works as a career guidance counsellor - to Croke Cup glory earlier this year after they lost the Leinster final to the combined Offaly Schools.

Kildare made a strong start to their 2023 campaign, but faded badly after losing the National League Division 2A final to Offaly and ended up being relegated from the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Nigel O’Hara will join Dowling as coach / selector with the full backroom team to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
