Liam Sheedy believes FBD Semple Stadium was the obvious venue for the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 final between Kilkenny and Limerick on Sunday week.

Eyebrows were raised earlier this week when Páirc Uí Chaoimh was chosen to host the decider for the first time in 42 years. Thurles is hosting the Munster SFC quarter-final between Tipperary and Waterford on the same day, but Sheedy feels both counties would have been open to switching the football game to the Saturday evening.

The two-time Tipperary All-Ireland SHC winning manager tweeted: “Appreciate there is a football game in Thurles on Sunday, but surely Semple Stadium on Saturday night would have been a better option for both counties? I sense the venue would have also attracted more neutrals and added to the atmosphere.”
