Next weekend will be fixture-free in Westmeath so as not to clash with the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

Mullingar is hosting the week-long event which was officially opened by President Michael D Higgins yesterday. Due to the traffic restrictions which will be place in and around the county town, there will be no championship action in either football or hurling next weekend.

Instead, there will be a round of hurling championship fixtures on Thursday and Friday at venues outside Mullingar, while TEG Cusack Park will become available on Monday when it hosts the SHC meeting of Lough Lene Gaels and Raharney at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, The Downs underlined their SFC credentials with a 4-16 to 0-7 hammering of local rivals Mullingar Shamrocks last evening, while three-in-a-row chasing St Loman's bounced back from their second round defeat to The Downs when a late TJ Cox goal sealed a 1-12 to 0-11 victory over Garrycastle in a repeat of last year's county final on Saturday night.
