Kilmallock opened up the defence of their Limerick senior hurling championship title with an impressive 2-23 to 2-9 win over Patrickswell in Newcastle West last night.
In what was a repeat of last year's final between the sides, the holders overcame the setback of conceding a brace of early goals from Thomas O'Brien and Jordan Higgins to lead by 0-12 to 2-3 at the end of the first-half.
There was no way back for the 'Well - minus injured star Cian Lynch - after Shane O’Brien and Conor Hanley-Clarke netted for Kilmallock on the restart.
On the Childers Road, Na Piarsaigh struck an unanswered 2-5 - the goals coming from David Dempsey and Conor Boylan - to run out five-point winners over Doon, 2-20 to 1-18.
Elsewhere, in group 2, Ballybrown defeated Blackrock 1-18 to 0-13 in in Ballyagran and South Liberties edged out Garryspillane by 1-18 to 0-20 at Doon.
