The All-Ireland MHC final between Tipperary and Offaly will be played at UMPC Nowlan Park on Sunday, July 3 (throw-in 1.30pm).

The Irish Press Cup decider was originally scheduled for the Saturday, but will now take place a day later at the home of Kilkenny GAA, which has a capacity of 27,000.

Following the sides’ All-Ireland semi-finals victories over Clare and Galway last Friday and Sunday respectively, Croke Park, Portlaoise, Limerick and Kilkenny were all mentioned as possible venues for the local derby.

While it’s believed that some in the competing counties were keen for the game to be played as a double-header with the Kilkenny v Clare All-Ireland SHC semi-final at Croke Park on the Saturday, GAA headquarters has rarely been used for minor fixtures since the grade moved to U17 and no exception was made in this case.

Offaly were understandably keen to avoid having to travel through Tipperary to play the final in Limerick, while there were concerns that Portlaoise’s 22,000-capacity might not hold the expected crowd.

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Kilkenny and Clare will be held in Croke Park on Saturday, July 2, with a throw-in time of 5.30pm.

The second semi-final between Limerick and Galway takes place at Croker on Sunday, July 3, with a throw-in time of 3.30pm.
