Meath GAA mourns sudden passing of Ciaran Benville

December 21, 2021

The late Ciarán Benville.

Meath GAA has been left stunned by the sudden passing of juvenile county chairman Ciarán Benville.

A proud Donaghmore-Ashbourne clubman, Ciarán served as chairperson of the Meath GAA Youth and Coiste Go Games Committees.

Ciarán's name will always be synonymous with Donaghmore-Ashbourne's rise in recent years and he will be remembered as being a most competent administrator for both club and county.

In a statement on Facebook, Donaghmore-Ashbourne regretted the untimely passing of a great clubman: "It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our Acorns organisers, GoGames Members, Juvenile Girls and County Board GoGames Chairperson, Ciarán Benville.

"Our thoughts and immediate prayers are with Ciarán’s family Mary, Sean, Mary Kate, Nora and Sam.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Meath GAA PRO Ciarán Flynn said: "On behalf of Meath GAA, I would like to extend my condolences to the friends and family of Ciarán Benville.

"I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ciarán Benville.

"He led the Coiste na nÓg and Coiste Go Games with distinction for many years. A great leader that brought so many along with him. Ciarán was the best colleague and friend you could dream of in a volunteer organisation. He never expected something of you that he wasn’t willing to do himself. He was a knowledgeable and wise man who knew the best approach to tackle many of the situations that arise in the sphere of Gaelic Games.

"He had the volunteer spirit and showed this by supporting various projects within his club and county. I enjoyed so many hours on the sidelines at games talking about everything from Irish history to the game we were watching. Our conversations will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

"Words can never suffice when attempting to remember a true Gael and all we can hope for is that those who knew Ciarán that they cherish his memory fondly.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal."
