Davy Fitzgerald has confirmed that he will be staying with the Wexford senior hurlers for 2021, seeing out the second year of his new two-year term.

The Clare All-Ireland winner will remain as Model County manager despite a disappointing fifth season in charge.

Fitzgerald's reign had come under threat following last Saturday's seven-point All-Ireland qualifier loss at the hands of his native county in Portlaoise while in their previous championship outing they were dethroned as Leinster champions by Galway.

The Sixmilebridge clubman had dropped hints over his future in the south east in the aftermath of the Clare defeat, insisting the Wexford players want him to stay on in the position and informed them via a text message today that he would remain next year.
