Hogan fails in bid to have All-Ireland final red card overturned

Richie Hogan’s appeal against the controversial red card he was shown in the All-Ireland SHC final has fallen on deaf ears.

The Kilkenny star appeared before the GAA’s Central Hearings Committee on Monday to appeal the decision of referee James Owens to issue him with his marching orders following a high challenge on Tipperary opponent Cathal Barrett in the first-half this year’s hurling showpiece.

The CHC, however, found the infraction – “Behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent” proven and imposed a one-match ban on Hogan.

That means, as things stand, suspension will rule the Danesfort clubman out of the Cats’ Allianz HL opener in the new year.

He does, however, have the option of appealing this ruling to the GAA’s Central Appeals Committee.
