Connolly miss "a big moment", says Cooper

Cork's Luke Connolly misses a goal effort under pressure form Ronan McNamee of Tyrone

Kerry legend Colm Cooper says Cork lost “an opportunity” in yesterday’s Super 8s clash against Tyrone.

The Rebels saw their five-point lead extinguished by the Red Hands’ stirring second-half comeback at Croke Park but Cooper feels it still could have developed into an upset if Luke Connolly had found the net with 15 minutes to go.

"Tyrone upped their intensity. We knew that something would be coming because they were in that dressing room a long, long time (at half-time)," Cooper told RTE Sport.

"To be fair, they turned it around in the second-half. Mattie Donnelly had a massive impact going in full-forward. But I think they lifted their intensity all over the place.

"For Cork, it's an opportunity lost, because they were in a great position, and on 55 minutes Luke Connolly had a great goal chance, just the handpass didn't go to his chest and he kind of soccer-kicked it wide. I think that was a big moment in the match."

He added: "Ronan McCarthy will be disappointed losing the match, but I think at the start of the championship if you said Cork would be in the Super 8s and really, really competitive, they'd take your hand off."
