Carlow moved into the knockout stages of the Leinster minor football championship thanks to 0-15 to 0-10 win over Wexford at Netwatch Cullen Park last night.

The hosts were dominant in the first-half, with scores from Alex Doyle and Cormac Murphy settling them in early on and a couple of two-pointers from Ronan Dooley would help them to run up a five-point advantage.

With PJ Breen, Cian Kavanagh (free) and Donncha O’Hanlon registering the Wexford points, the scoreboard would read 0-10 to 0-3 by half-time and Doyle and Andrew Joyce would raise white flags in the third quarter for Carlow.

The visitors responded with a couple of Cian Cavanagh frees, along with a Harry Asple point, but wouldn’t be able to close the gap as Danny McMahon and Doyle sent over more scores for Carlow who now look likely to face either Offaly or Westmeath in a preliminary quarter-final on April 28th.
