Louth are into their third consecutive Leinster senior football championship final after edging out Kildare by 1-18 to 0-18 in Tullamore this afternoon.
Conall McKeever’s goal right on the half-time hooter was what proved the difference between the sides in the end, sending Ger Brennan’s men into another provincial decider and earning them a place in the All-Ireland series while Kildare are now bound for the Tailteann Cup.
Sam Mulroy’s two-pointer had steered the Wee County into a 0-11 to 0-10 lead in the 33rd minute and the ball would be in the Lilywhites’ net two minutes later via the fist of McKeever.
Alex Beirne and Ryan Sinkey knocked over early second-half points for Kildare to halve their deficit and, despite Louth going up by four again, they’d eventually get level (1-14 to 0-17) through Beirne in the 66th minute.
Crucially, the next score went the way of Brennan’s side via Craig Lennon and another point from Kieran McArdle would be backed up by a superb Tommy Durnin two-pointer to cement Louth’s victory.
