Former Armagh star Oisin McConville says fellow county man Aidan Forker’s headbutt on Donegal’s Michael Murphy on Sunday is “not something that should be part of the game”.

Forker received his marking orders in the 45th minute of the All-Ireland champions’ defeat to the Tir Chonaill men for the incident after Murphy had just come on as a substitute in Ballybofey.

Jim McGuinness’s side won the game by 0-21 to 1-10 and the Armagh captain is now looking at a two-match suspension as a result of the red card.

"I wonder could the referee have stepped in a bit quicker and put an end to the pushing and shoving," McConville told the BBC GAA podcast.

"He's probably going to get two games. It probably is a sending off yeah.

"The headbutt to the chest does not look good. It's not a nice situation. It's not something that should be part of the game and he will get suspended. He'll know how stupid it was."

As for Murphy, who kicked 0-3 in his first appearance for Donegal since June 2022, the Wicklow boss added: "He looked like somebody who hadn't been away. He's definitely trimmed down a wee bit since he was in the studio. He looked in great shape."
