Roscommon won this afternoon’s top of the table clash in Division 2 against Monaghan at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park.

Two late scores from Conor Cox, including a two-pointer, ensured the points for Davy Burke’s men as they recorded their third consecutive Allianz League victory (0-25 to 2-14).

Monaghan had made the better start to hold a 0-5 to 0-3 lead when David Garland netted their first goal in the 23rd minutes and they’d have the ball in the Connacht men’s net again five minutes later via Michael Bannigan to move towards a 2-6 to 0-8 interval lead.

The Rossies got motoring after the change of ends to have things level within seven minutes of the restart and more points by Diarmuid Murtagh and Conor Hand had them two to the good prior to the visitors levelling it late on before the scores of Senan Lambe, Ruairi Fallon and Cox won it for the Rossies.

Meanwhile, Cavan earned their first points of the Allianz League campaign by battling past Louth towards a 3-15 to 0-18 victory at Kingspan Breffni.

It took late goals from substitute Conor Madden and Gearoid McKiernan to get the job done for the Breffni men against a Louth side which led for long stages, including at half-time (0-12 to 1-7).

The frees of Sam Mulroy helped the visitors maintain their lead midway through the second-half and, while Cavan got it level in the 57th minute, Mulroy would send over again to steer Ger Brennan’s men ahead coming towards the home stretch.

However, there’d still be time for Raymond Galligan’s side to register two goals – the first coming from a lobbed effort by Madden making the most of Niall McDonnell’s move out the field before veteran McKiernan secured two vital points for his team.
