Roscommon GAA has led the tributes to former county and Strokestown footballer Martin 'Fozzy' Fallon, who died unexpectedly while on duty as a paramedic over the weekend.

The father-of-two, who was in his mid-50s, was a talented midfielder who represented Roscommon in all grades. He made 13 appearances for the seniors and won a Connacht SFC medal in 1991. The Rossies were subsequently edged out by Meath - who had earlier beaten Dublin after a famous four-match saga in Leinster - in the All-Ireland semi-final.

Martin also enjoyed success with his beloved Strokestown, contributing to their Roscommon SFC triumphs in 1992 and 2002.

“Martin will be fondly remembered and forever missed by those fortunate enough to have known him,” said Roscommon GAA chairman Brian Carroll.

A minute's silence will be observed before Roscommon's Allianz Football League Division 2 opener against Down this weekend as a mark of respect.

Martin will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his heartbroken wife Ann (McNamara); son and daughter; brother, Aidan; sisters, Marie and Trish (Patti); brothers-in-law, Sean, Paschal, John and Mick; sisters-in-law, Helen, Betty and Gillian; nephews and nieces, Katelyn, Holly, David, Liam, Zoe, Megan, Sean, Eve, Cathal, Danny and Laura; cousins, neighbours, work colleagues and a large circle of friends, especially all of his many sporting friends.
