Joey Oguz’s superb goal in extra time proved the difference as Errigal Ciaran (Tyrone) edged past Dr Crokes (Kerry) by 2-18 to 1-18 in a cracking All-Ireland club senior football championship semi-final
A fabulous encounter in Newbridge saw the Tyrone champions leading by the odd point in 15 at the end of the first-half, before their Killarney opponents nudged themselves in front early in the restart thanks to the points of David Shaw, Micheál Burns and Tony Brosnan (free).
After that, the next Errigal attack would see Darragh Canavan dispatching a sensational finish to the top corner of the Kerry champions’ net to surge his side ahead again.
Dr Crokes were able to close the gap within 10 minutes and, despite Ruairi Canavan putting Enda McGinley’s side back in the ascendancy, Crokes’ late push saw a Brosnan point being backed up by what looked to be the winner from Burns in the third minute of injury-time.
However, Errigal Ciaran dug deep to find an equaliser just in the nick of time via Peter Og McCartan, leaving it at 1-13 to 0-16 when the full-time whistle sounded, and points at each end from Darragh Canavan and Oguz and Brian Looney and Brosnan (free) meant there was no separating the sides at the end of the first-half of extra time.
The second period started in perfect fashion for McGinley’s charges, with Oguz getting in behind the Crokes defence and dispatching a cool finish to the top corner, and while the trailers got a goal back from Charlie Keating they couldn’t find another.
The three-point victory now advances Errigal Ciaran to their first ever All-Ireland club SFC final where they'll face the winners of this evening’s showdown between Dublin’s Cuala and Coolera Strandhill of Sligo in eight days time at Croke Park (throw-in 3.30pm).
