Decision due on O'Rourke's Meath future

Meath manager Colm O'Rourke

Colm O’Rourke's future as Meath football manager is expected to be decided this week.

According to local reports, the Meath GAA Management Committee's review of O'Rourke's tenure is now complete and will be deliberated on tomorrow night. The Royal County legend was appointed for a three-year term at the end of 2022, subject to a review after the second year.

it is not expected that all of the current management team will continue if reappointed for 2025 while there has been considerable speculation regarding the content of the player survey part of the review.

Despite bowing out of the All-Ireland SFC race in June after three straight defeats in the round-robin series, O'Rourke made a strong case for remaining at the helm when saying: “I think it's going to take several years to build a team here, so I think it might take five years. So I think I'll go to the county board and ask them to give me five years as a minimum thing.

“Because I think it's going to take certainly two or three years. We will be better next year, we'll be in contention for promotion from the second division (of the Allianz League) and then by the following year, we'll be in contention with all the big teams so it's a job of work."
