Johnny Doyle and his beloved Allenwood made a winning return to the Kildare SFC after a seven-year lapse at the weekend.

The 46-year-old former county star converted a first half penalty, while Eoin Bagnall kicked a last-minute winner as last year’s intermediate champions edged out Kilcock by 1-10 to 0-12 in a thrilling preliminary round tie. Meanwhile, a late Ben McCormack goal sealed a 1-10 to 0-9 victory for Sarsfields over Newbridge rivals Moorefield.

The other SFC preliminary round results were: Athy 1-24 Maynooth 3-16; Eadestown 2-15 Clane 2-9; Clogherinkoe 2-10 St Laurence’s 0-11; Confey 2-12 Carbury 0-10, Naas 0-14 Johnstownbridge 0-9; and Celbridge 1-13 Raheens 0-11.
