Nurney object to 'ghost' point in Kildare IFC

August 12, 2024

A general view of footballs.

Nurney are appealing the result of their Kildare IFC preliminary round clash with Straffan on Friday evening.

Confusion reigned at the final whistle when referee Alan Archbold had Straffan winning by a point, 0-14 to 1-10, but it seems everyone else in Kilcullen had it as a draw, 0-13 to 1-10.

Nurney's objection will be heard by the Kildare CCC tonight and is expected to centre around the awarding of Straffan's 10th point with 10 minutes to go. At this point, the match official signalled to one of his linesman that the scoreboard was incorrect and another point was added to Straffan's tally, making it 0-11 to 1-7.

There is already speculation that a replay will be ordered.
