Armagh's triumph sees Ulster complete clean sweep of All-Ireland football titles

History was made today as Armagh defeated Galway by 1-11 to 0-13 at Croke Park to capture their second ever Sam Maguire Cup crown and first in 22 years.

The Orchard County’s victory also capped off an incredible year of dominance for Ulster that has now saw all of the major football titles claimed by the northern province.

Prior to Kieran McGeeney’s men winning the All-Ireland senior football championship title today, Tyrone defeated Kerry in May to land the All-Ireland U20FC crown before Derry overcame Armagh three weeks ago to retain the All-Ireland minor football championship.

Down were also crowned Tailteann Cup champions earlier this month while mid-April saw Derry defeat Dublin for the Allianz League Division 1 title and Donegal edge Armagh for Division 2 honours.

All three All-Ireland club finals were won by Ulster sides as well in the early part of 2024, with Glen (Derry) taking the senior title, Cullyhanna (Armagh) crowned intermediate winners and Arva (Cavan) clinching junior honours. Along with this, Ulster University (UU) recorded their sixth Sigerson Cup success in February and Omagh CBS landed the Hogan Cup a month later.
