Seanie Johnston and Micheál Lyng have been appointed joint-managers of Cavan Gaels.
The former club and county team-mates, who won numerous Cavan SFC titles together, replace Jason O’Reilly in the role. The Belturbet clubman and 1997 Ulster SFC final goal-scoring hero was shortlisted for the vacant Breffni County senior post this summer before it was filled by Raymond Galligan.
Johnston managed Monaghan outfit Ballybay this season, having previously served as a forwards’ coach with Cavan during Mickey Graham’s tenure. Beaten at the quarter-final by Kingscourt this year, the Gaels are hoping that Johnston and Lyng will be able to deliver a first Oliver Plunkett Cup since 2017.
