A man in his 40s has been arrested after two people were stabbed during an underage football match in Tyrone yesterday evening.
The incident took place at the Paddy Cullen Park grounds on Covent Road in Cookstown, where Cookstown Fr Rocks were playing Fintona Pearses in an Under-16 championship semi-final.
Police and members from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene from where one man was taken to hospital and the second received medical treatment at the grounds.
A man aged in his 40s was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.
The PSNI has appealed to any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to contact them.
The Cookstown Fr Rocks club confirmed in a statement last night that a “disturbing and very serious incident” had occurred at the grounds.
"The committee will now work to ensure that children and young people who witnessed this disturbing and very serious incident have the support and assistance that they require in the coming days,” read the statement.
Fintona Pearses GAC also released the following: “Our thoughts are with those impacted and all focus is on the welfare of the children & young people present.
"The Club will be making no further comment at this time."
