GAA President Larry McCarthy has paid tribute to the late Brian Mullins.
The St Vincent's clubman starred on the successful Dublin teams of the 1970's and 1980's, winning four All-Ireland SFC medals, nine Leinster SFC medals and two National League titles. In 1976, he helped St Vincent's to their first All-Ireland club senior football title.
One of the greatest gaelic footballers in the history of the game, Mullins' inspirational displays in midfield for the Dubs were acknowledged with back-to-back All-Stars awards in 1976 and 1977.
In a statement released on Friday evening, McCarthy hailed the impact made by the five-time All-Ireland winner while offering condolences to his partner, Elizabeth, and his family after the 68-year-old’s passing yesterday.
“Be it on or off the field Brian Mullins was a towering presence, a natural leader and was the embodiment of actions speaking louder than words," McCarthy said of his former Thomond College teammate.
"He is rightly regarded as one of the greatest Gaelic footballers of all time and holds a legendary place in the hearts of Dublin football fans.
"My deepest sympathies to his partner Elizabeth, his family, his many friends and his colleagues in St Vincents.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís."
