Galway captured their first All-Ireland minor football championship title since 2007 last night after seeing off Mayo by 0-15 to 0-9 at Dr Hyde Park.

Having been beaten by Mato twice on the provincial stage earlier this year, Alan Glynn’s lads delivered when it mattered most to get over the line against their neighbours on this occasion.

Colm Costello and Éanna Monaghan combined for 0-9 of the winners’ total and they’d lead by 0-8 to 0-6 at the halfway stage thanks to points from Stephen Curley and Costello late in the half.

Shay McGlinchey and Costello (2) sailed over scores to keep the heat on Mayo and the Tribesmen would be five clear after Cillian Trayers and Costello shot scores to cancel out one from Ronan Clarke at the other end.

Lorcan Slike picked up a black card that reduced Mayo to 14 men for the closing stages and Curley would round off the winning tally after, as Galway secured their first Tom Markham Cup success in a decade-and-a-half.
