MHC: Trim's fine run continues

September 09, 2019

Trim's James Murray

Trim 4-20; Kildalkey 0-11

Trim's fine run in this year's championship continued with a convincing, if somewhat flattering, win over near neighbours Kildalkey. The final scoreline fails to tell the full tale as Kildalkey actually led going into the last quarter of the opening half. However, Trim finished strongly and put up 2-2 on the scoreboard to give themselves a comfortable cushion at the half time break.

Trim were quickly off the mark and Conor McKeown had them ahead within less than a minute of the throw in. Sean Foley added to the advantage before Patrick Barnwell had the visitors opening score. James Murray and James Foley then pointed for Trim before they were rocked following successive Kildalkey scores from Brian O'Halloran (2) and Liam Carroll.

Trim centre back, Danny Coleman, edged his side ahead following a fine run but Kelvin Lynch restored Kildalkey's advantage with two pointed frees.

Trim's trademark teamwork was starting to pay dividends and, with Joey Cole lording it at midfield, James Murray was twice on the mark to edge his side in front before Kelvin Lynch levelled matters from another pointed free.

Conor McKeown had been on the easy list recently following an injury but he  burst into life and was instrumental in supplying James Murray who found the Kildalkey net, was persistent in winning a free which Joey Cole converted, and , finally, supplied Sean Foley who, again, raised the green flag for the home side. James Foley completed the half's scoring to leave his side comfortably in front.
Half Time: Trim 2-9; Kildalkey 0-7

Trim resumed the second half in familiar style and James Murray had an early pointed free. Harry Cotterell showed some stout defending before Kelvin Lynch was on the mark for Kildalkey with a brace of pointed frees.

Conor Mc Keown helped himself to a goal of his own before a James Murray, pointed free, and Conor McKeown, again, stretched the home side's advantage. Kelvin Lynch had another pointed free for Kildalkey but it would be the last minute before Brian O'Halloran had Kildalkey's next and final score.

In between, Trim helped themselves to a feast of scores with pointed scores from Joey Cole, James Murray (4), and Danny Coleman, and an opportunist goal from Fergus O'Raghallaigh. Brian O'Halloran's final score for the visitors was followed by an Andrew Gibney point and a James Murray pointed free, which finished off the scoring.

Trim scorers: James Murray (1-10) 5f, Conor McKeown (1-2), Sean Foley, (1-1), Fergus O'Raghallaigh (1-0), James Foley, Danny Coleman, and Joey Cole, 2f (0-2, each), Andrew Gibney (0-1)
