Offaly are All-Ireland U20 hurling champions after this evening’s 2-20 to 2-14 victory over Tipperary at a packed UPMC Nowlan Park.

Having lost out on the same stage last year, the Faithful County came up trumps this time as ace attacker Adam Screeney hit 0-13 on route to glory.

Screeney had sent over the first two points of this decider before Tipp found Offaly’s net with a Darragh McCarthy’s penalty in the seventh minute.

After that, the Premier lads opened up a three-point lead but their Leinster counterparts steadied the ship as points from Screeney, Barry Egan and Dan Bourke sailed over and had them 0-12 to 1-5 in front come half-time.

Lee O’Connor’s side would extend their lead after the change of ends, but stayed in the fight by netting a Sean Butler goal that made it 1-16 to 2-8 in the 45th minute.

Offaly’s response was perfect as it saw Shane Rigney hammering to their Munster opponents’ net and another goal from Bourke two minutes later all but sealed them the coveted James Nowlan Cup.
