A pointed free from Jason Forde in injury-time earned Tipperary a dramatic one-point win over fierce rivals Kilkenny in a thrilling Allianz Hurling League Division 1B encounter at FBD Semple Stadium.

Silvermines sharpshooter Forde scored 0-10 - split evenly between play and placed balls - while Jake Morris' contribution of 1-2 proved crucial in the 1-19 to 1-18 victory this afternoon.

Tipp were 1-11 to 0-8 to the good when referee Liam Gordon blew the half-time whistle but the game burst into life on the resumption when Kilkenny conjured six points in a row to get themselves back on level terms.

The home side appeared to be coasting clear when leading 0-10 to 0-4 on 28 minutes, then Kilkenny rallied with successive points from Tom Phelan, John Donnelly (2) and the industrious Padraig Walsh to get within three.

However, they were rocked back on their heels when Morris took advantage of a defensive error to fire past goalkeeper Eoin Murphy.

Whatever was said in the Kilkenny dressing room during the interval break had the desired effect as substitute Tadhg O’Dwyer pounced for a goal on 61 minutes to keep them in contention.

Walter Walsh struck two points to level matters once more before Forde had the final say.
