Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

July 01, 2019

It was a very special weekend for DRP GAA club with our girls and boys Féile teams representing the club with distinction. Pride of place goes to our girls Under 14 footballers who lifted the All-Ireland Division 10 Shield title in Castlerea on Sunday. They beat Warrickshire in the semi-final on Sunday morning, and then followed that up with a marvellous win against a gallant Owenmore Gaels team in the final. This was a tremendous achievement for the players and management team of Tom O’Boyle, Trevor Ferguson and Frank Moylan. There were great celebrations afterwards - and thanks to all our supporters for their tremendous support. A special mention to for the boys team who reached the quarter-finals of the cup competition - no mean feat. They too, can take a bow. The Féile weekend was a huge success for the club. We were delighted to host the Scotland girls and boys teams. A special word of thanks to the organising team and big band of volunteers who helped out with all aspects of the weekend. The community buy-in was the key reason that the weekend worked so well. From us to you - thank you all. Look out for Geoff’s photo gallery of the weekend on our Facebook page later this week.

Beyond the Féile, our women’s intermediate footballers picked up another win in the Connacht Gold championship with an impressive 2-17 to 1-10 win away to Curry on Sunday morning. They play St Michael’s this coming Sunday morning in Oxfield at 10:30am.

Our senior men’s footballers remain in contention for a Division 2 league final place after a 4-15 to 2-6 win against Bunninadden on Friday night with Alan O’Dowd giving a virtuoso display at full forward. Next up, we play our promotion rivals Calry/St Joseph’s on Sunday afternoon in Oxfield at 4pm - in a game which is set to decide who qualifies for the league final.

Our junior team were well beaten by St John’s in Division 4 on a final scoreline of 5-17 to 1-11.

Our monthly club meeting takes place this Monday, July 1st, in Oxfield at 9pm.

Commiserations to Eoghan Smith, Lee Cummins and the Sligo minor footballers who bowed out of the Connacht minor championship at the semi-final stage last Wednesday. Good luck to the county under 20 team against Mayo in the championship this Wednesday evening.

Our U14 boys team had a busy week. Last Monday they played St Mary’s in the county ‘A’ league final in Scarden. The game ended in defeat against an impressive Mary’s team but there was plenty of encouragement to take from the DRP display. This is a coming young team.

Good luck to the Benbulben Gaels hurlers who play in the Connacht club Feile in Bekan next Saturday.

The boys minor footballers play St John’s/Owenmore Gaels in the league shield semi-final on Sunday in Oxfield at 12pm.

The Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camp 2019 takes place in Oxfield from July 16-20th. This hugely popular camp is open to girls and boys aged 6-13 years. There's still time to book a place for your daugher/son. See gaa.ie for more info - or visit the club's Facebook page.
