In what is a far from ideal scenario, some football counties are facing the prospect of playing League and Championship games on successive weekends next month.

Local rivals Mayo and Roscommon, who currently occupy first and second place in Division 1, could meet in the Allianz League final on the weekend of April 1-2 before facing off again in the Connacht SFC quarter-final in Castlebar a week later. Armagh are also in with a shout of reaching the Division 1 final, which would be played a week before they face Antrim in the Ulster SFC preliminary round.

If Cork reach the Division 2 final, they would also have a quick turnaround to their Munster SFC quarter-final against Clare. Offaly, Laois, Sligo, Wicklow and Leitrim will also be questioning whether they would be best served playing in an Allianz League final a week before playing in the Championship. Sligo and Leitrim travel to Ruislip and Gaelic Park on Saturday, April 8 to face London and New York respectively.

The congestion caused by the split season also means that some of the teams mentioned could be in action for the next four weekends.
