Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

September 14, 2020

This is a very special week for Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club. A first-ever senior men’s football final appearance is, obviously, historic but it is just one of several county finals in the coming days with our minor girls footballers, under-12 girls footballers, under-14 hurlers and boys under-16 footballers all scheduled to contest county deciders.

First to next Sunday’s senior championship final at Markievicz Park against Tourlestrane at 4pm. It will be a proud moment for everybody connected with the club to see/hear the red and black take the field, whether we are watching on the sligogaa.ie stream or listening to the radio. The Rosses Point and Drumcliffe communities are extremely proud of this group of players. We wish them and the management team led by bainisteoir Fergal O’Flaherty the very best of luck. It is inspiring to see the terrific colour around the place this week - from the promenade in Rosses Point to the Carney road.

Crested flags, car flags, bunting and other county final accessories are on sale each evening this week in Oxfield from 7 to 8pm. They will also be on sale at Saturday morning’s GAA nursery coaching session in Rathcormac, from 10am to 11:30am.

The club would also like to take this opportunity to wish our north Sligo neighbours St Molaise Gaels every success in Sunday’s intermediate football final against Curry. It’s a big weekend for both of Sligo’s N15 clubs – and that’s reflected in the colour on show this week across both areas.

It is an equally big week for our girls minor gaelic footballers, whose impressive run to the final saw them top the round-robin group and qualify for this weekend’s minor ‘A’ football championship decider. As it happens, Tourlestrane are their opponents too this weekend. This DRP team is very exciting and talent group of players. We wish Barry O’Sullivan’s side every success.

Our under-12 girls footballers will bring their 2020 campaign to a conclusion this Saturday afternoon when they play Eoghan Rua in the ‘B’ championship final at Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurry at 4:30pm. Best of luck girls. Enjoy the experience.

Hard luck to our girls U14 footballers who bowed out the championship at the semi-final stage last Thursday evening, as they lost to Geevagh by four points. The team had a fine run to the semi-final. Best of luck to Geevagh in the decider.

The DRP under-14 hurlers are in county final action on Friday evening when they play Western Gaels in Scarden at 6:30pm. Best of luck to the players and management.

The Benbulben Gaels minor hurlers have a busy championship week with two games in three days. They are away to Naomh Eoin on Tuesday evening, before hosting Western Gaels on Thursday at Oxfield. Both games have 6:30pm starts.

Our boys under-16 footballer are preparing for a Shield final too. They await the winners of this week’s semi-final between Owenmore Gaels and Tubbercurry.

We are currently selling Club Sligo draw tickets for 2020. The draw has a new Volkswagen Polo as the top prize, with several runners-up prizes of All-Ireland final tickets to be won. The tickets cost €50 each. Please note that your money will go directly to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club – so this is a very valuable fundraiser for the club, as well as supporting the county’s Club Sligo project. If you'd like to support, contact Sean Reynolds on 0871833411.
