Last weekend we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the formation of Castlerea St Kevin’s GAA Club and the official opening of the new playing pitch and the new spectator stand. Over the last three years the club executive has put in a large amount of work to get these projects finished, for that we sincerely thank them. We also thank our contractors and the Castlerea Community Employment Scheme workers and supervisor William Cornwall funded by the Department of Social Protection for their input. Events on Saturday consisted of boy’s and girl’s underage games. We thank all club member who organised and refereed the games and who looked after the children so well. Thanks to all who supplied and served food and refreshments on the day. Thanks to the following clubs who came to celebrate with us Eire Og, Michael Glaveys, St Croan’s, St Dominic’s Roscommon Gael’s, Shannon Gael’s and Shandonagh from Westmeath. St Brendan’s minor girl’s from Ballygar played St Kevin’s for the Luke Daly memorial trophy donated by The Daly family Ballygar and which is played for annualy, we thank the Daly family for this honour. Thanks to Madeline Ni Dhalaigh for making the presentation and for her kind comments. Charlestown and Castlerea St Kevin’s finished Saturday’s proceedings with an entertaining U20 football match. Sunday commenced with a ladies senior match for the Gaynor trophy between Clonnbonniffe/Trien and Castlerea/Tarmon, Paul Gaynor made the presentation. We thank the Gaynor family for their generosity in donating the trophy to the club. We then had the blessing of the stand by Fr JohnMcManus PP and the official opening by the president of the LGFA Marie Hickey, we thank Marie for her attendance. Then the Castlerea Town Band led the senior teams and all present to the new pitch for the blessing and official opening by John Prenty  secretary of the Connaught Council, we thank John and the Town Band for attending. We also thank Brian Carroll secretary of the Roscommon County board for taking the time to be with us on the day. This was followed by an entertaining game between our 2003 county  champions and our present day young guns. Then it was back to the O’Rourke Centre for food and refreshments and the presentations to the senior, U21 and minor footballers and junior hurlers who won county championships in 1968 the year the Castlerea St Kevin’s was formed. We had a great weekend but this would not be possible without the enormous input by our ladies committee, club executive and club members old and young who put in an enormous amount of work last week in getting everything ready to the highest possible standard and for the catering, stewarding and everything else that was required to make the weekend the success that it was. Thanks a million everyone. Football Fixtures: the men’s U20 team play Boyle in the first round of the division 2a championship next Sunday in Boyle at 12pm. Numbers drawn on the night were 6, 10, 13 and 32. €50 winners on the night were Sean Joyce, Lily Mannion, Conor Casey, Kevin Shaughnesy and Ann Henry. Next weeks jackpot is €7,200 and the draw takes place in Mulvihill’s on Friday 02nd November. Tickets on sale in shops and pubs in town or from any club official at €2 per panel or three panels for €5. Castlerea St Kevin’s thanks everyone who supports our lotto.
