All-Ireland glory for CBS Roscommon

CBS Roscommon

As young Seamie Carthy wheeled away with delight by kicking the winning point in the All-Ireland "B" College's Final in Pearse Park Longford on Sunday last, CBS Roscommon knew that the Paddy Drummond cup was coming home to Roscommon Town for the second time in the last decade.

Cue scenes of delight as the Red and White army of supporters streamed onto the sun-drenched Longford venue to embrace their latest sporting heroes.

The foundations of success on the day for the young Rossies was helped by a fertile first half period which saw them catapulted into the lead by an excellent Colin Murray goal and a point scoring spree from full forward Cian Duggan, Tom Biesty, Sam Hannon and Owen Rogers.

With an impressive six-point lead going into the second half the Roscommon side were put to the pin of their collars by a resolute Patrician High School Carrickmacross Co Monaghan. With scores traded in the first ten minutes of the second half Patrician stormed by into the game inspired by the industrious Conor Meehan, Tom Maguire, Luke Poval and Joseph McArdle. The Monaghan side cut the deficit to three points deep into injury time but the green flag that they needed proved elusive as late points from Hannon and the clincher from Carthy brought an absorbing contest to an end.

Managed by Noel Moran and Eoghan Coll and coached by Sean Adamson and Gerry Lohan the CBS boys were a well drilled outfit in their 1-13 to 0-12 success.

CBS captain Eoghan Carthy followed in the footsteps of former captains Mark Healy 2011 and Ciaran Lawless 2019 in lifting the cup and writing the Class of 2025 in the All-Ireland College's history books.
