It was the end of an era in Roscommon Town yesterday when Paddy Joe Burke closed his barber shop after 52 years.
The local community came together to say goodbye to the huge Roscommon football fan who started cutting hair at the age of 17 and moved to his famous barber shop in Church Street in 1972. Over the last five decades, Paddy Joe enjoyed interacting with his many customers and was known for his warmth and wisdom, especially when it came to all things Roscommon GAA!
Fittingly, Paddy Joe signed off with a special haircut for his very first customer, Martin Mulhern from Fuerty, who now lives in Westmeath.
