Two Ben O'Carroll goals in the early stages of either half proved decisive as St Brigid's edged out neighbours Clann na nGael by 2-12 to 1-12 in the first of today's two Roscommon SFC quarter-finals at Dr Hyde Park.
The Roscommon U20 star netted his second major from the penalty spot to propel the Kiltoom men into a 2-12 to 0-9 lead with five minutes of normal time left on the clock, but Clann na nGael stormed back at them, buoyed by Conor Farrell's rasping goal. However, time ran out on the Clanns, who had trailed 1-6 to 0-4 at half-time.
Meanwhile, Padraig Pearses' reign as county and Connacht champions came to a shuddering halt in the second game. Pat Flanagan's side fell to a 1-11 to 1-5 defeat at the hands of Roscommon Gaels.
