Amy Gavin Mangan is the latest Irish player to be drafted by AFLW club North Melbourne.

The Offaly midfielder joins Vikki Wall (Meath), Erika O’Shea (Cork) Niamh Martin (Tipperary) and Bláithín Bogue (Fermanagh) at the Kangaroos, who went through the season unbeaten, culminating in their first AFLW Premiership last month following an emphatic victory over the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final.

Mangan’s departure is not only a blow to her county, but also to her club Naomh Ciarán who also lost dual player Kate Kenny to the Geelong Cats earlier this year.

In a statement, North Melbourne said: "The 25-year-old stood out to recruiters with her speed and agility while playing Gaelic football, as well as her ability to use her strong athletic traits to her advantage."
