Offaly commenced their Allianz Hurling League Division 2A campaign with a 0-21 to 0-18 win over Down in Ballycran this afternoon.
Eoghan Cahill’s frees and points from Oisin Kelly, Killian Sampson (2) and David King helped the Faithful men to lead by 0-10 to 0-7 by the halfway stage.
Two Cahill frees stretched the visitors’ advantage to five and the scoreboard read 0-18 to 0-12 in their favour once Brian Duignan sailed over in the 56th minute.
Down trimmed their deficit back down to two before Cahill (free) and Padraig Clancy raised more white flags for John Kelly's men as they held on for the three-point win on opening weekend.
