Declan Hogan has been named Offaly football captain for 2023.

The highly-rated full back takes over the role from fellow Tullamore man Johnny Moloney, who has opted out for the coming season. Hogan has enjoyed some great battles with Niall McNamee in recent Offaly SFC finals and was named Senior Footballer of the Year in the Faithful County after holding the veteran Rhode sharpshooter scoreless in the 2021 final replay.

Like Moloney, the recently-married McNamee isn’t expected to be involved with Liam Kearns’ team this year.

Hogan captained Offaly in their recent O’Byrne Cup wins over Wicklow and Dublin, and will skipper them once again when they open their Allianz League Division 3 campaign against Antrim in Belfast on Sunday week.
