2020 U15 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 4

2020 U15 B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
The 2020 Campaign for Na Fianna U15 Footballers came to an end last Friday evening in Geashill as they lost out narrowly to Ballinamere / Durrow in the B Championship Quarter Final on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-14. The first half was nip and tuck throughout with the sides level at 7 points apiece as the game went into stoppage time when B/D struck for their first goal when a shot was well saved well saved by Na Fianna keeper Doonacha Keoghan but the rebound was knocked in. This gave B/D the lead at the break 1-07 to 0-07. The sides added 2 points apiece early in the second half before B/D struck for their second goal on 4 mins. To their credit Na Fianna responded immediately with a goal of their own on 5 mins when a ball over the top found D J Tierney who had just been introduced at half time in the clear and he dispatched the ball low past the keeper to the net. B/D then added 2 points to Na Fianna’s 1 by the 10th min to extend their lead to 4 points and this is how it remained until the last 10 mins when first Na Fianna added 2 points with B/D responding with 2 of the own as the game reached the end of normal time before Na Fianna completed the tally with the final 2 points in stoppage time but despite having a number of chances the required goal for Na Fianna did not materialise.

U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 1
Having reached the 2020 U13 A Championship Final played just a few weeks ago Na Fianna began their quest to emulate that achievement as they opened their 2021 Championship campaign last Sunday morning against neighbours St Broughans in Bracknagh and after an exciting finish both sides were left to settle for a Draw 4-06 (Na Fianna) to 3-09 (St Broughans). Na Fianna were in front by 2 points to 1 when they struck for their first goal midway through the first half as a free landed in the square where midfielder Cian Multaney-Kelly pulled on it first time to the net. St Broughans responded with 3 points to Na Fianna’s 1 before Na Fianna dispatched their second goal in stoppage time as Stevie Byrne made a great run through the middle before laying it off to Martin Conroy to blast it to the net. This saw Na Fianna hold what appeared to be a healthy lead at the break by 2-03 to 0-04. Na Fianna increased their lead with the first point of the second half but were then rocked as St Broughans got through to score 2 goals by the 5th min to draw level. The sides added just a point apiece over the next 15 mins. St Broughans then edged ahead with 2 points in a row before Na Fianna went back in front with their 3rd goal finished by Cormac O’Grady. Yet again 2 pointed frees put St Broughans ahead. Na Fianna didnt give up and appeared to have snatched it with their 4th goal when a goalmout scramble saw Doonacha Cooney get the ball over the line but St Broughans went straight down the field to strike their 3rd goal. Na Fianna kept going and deep in stoppage time Paddy Sheil fired over the equalising point and final score of the game.
