There were wins for Westmeath, Offaly and Kildare in the opening round of the Leinster minor hurling championship this afternoon.
Mark Cunningham’s late point in Kinnegad saw Westmeath secure a comeback victory over Carlow (1-15 to 1-14) to move into the next round.
The Lake County had trailed by 1-7 to 0-9 at the half and fell six points behind with seven minutes of normal time remaining before Darragh McCormack goal and points from Eamonn Cunneen and Cunningham sealed the dramatic win.
In Birr, Offaly had minimal fuss against Laois as they handed the visitors a 2-18 to 0-12 defeat, with both their goals coming from Charlie Mitchell and Lochlann Quinn landing 0-14 (10f, 2 '65s) over the hour for the Faithful men.
Kildare were 1-13 to 0-7 winners over Antrim in Abbottstown, where Charlie Sheridan bagged the game’s only goal late on.
