Intermediate Championship:
Our Intermediate team had a great start to their Intermediate Championship campaign on Saturday evening in Tullamore when they came away with a great win.
Corner forward Anna Doherty kicked off proceedings when she scored a point from play. Tullamore replied quickly with a point from a free down the opposite side of the pitch. Lucy Lowry got on the ball on the wing and hit it into Emer Bracken who sent the ball sailing over the bar. The K/K half back line of Brianna Commins, Sarah Meacle and Caoimhe Rigney were working very hard to stop and clear Tullamore attacks with Sarah Meacle hitting a long ball up the field that ended up in the hands of Anna Doherty who scored her second point.
Tullamore continued to battle hard, and Brianna Commins gathered the ball and made a good run up her wing to clear her line. Emer Bracken was beginning to really find her form in the last ten minutes of the first half and she scored the only goal of the game. She went on to score three points, two from frees and one from play. Isabella Gleeson closed out the half with a point from play leaving the scoreline 1-07 to 0-04 at half time.
At the start of the second half, Tullamore put serious pressure on the K/K backlines. Full back and Captain Catherine Kenna was a solid presence in front of the goals and prevented a Tullamore free from dropping into the net. Emer Bracken passed a lovely ball out to Lucy Lowry who slotted it over the bar. Tullamore scored two points and their goalie made three saves in a row to deny the K/K forwards a second goal. Emer Bracken scored a free from the 45 and then Shauna Flynn, in a very skilful move, gathered up the ball from a scuffle in front of the Tullamore goals and flicked the ball over her shoulder and over the bar. Isabella Gleeson scored two points from play and Caoimhe Quinn got her score to finish up the game. The game ended 1-14 to 0-07 giving K/K a good win in the opening round of the Intermediate Championship.
