Mc Elvaney’s Waste & Recycling Intermediate Championship Round 4:
Sun drenched Smithborough was the venue last Saturday afternoon for the 4th round of the Group 1 stage of the McElvaney Waste Intermediate Championship between hosts Éire Óg and Corduff which was played in ideal conditions. Corduff entered this match coming off a good win over Blackhill in the first round and 2 draws with Currin and Cremartin. The heat was definitely on in Smithborough in more ways than one as it was 22 degrees and a win was required to keep Corduff top of their group table. Despite the sweltering heat the opening exchanges of the match were played at a fast pace. Éire Óg struggled with their shooting and were guilty of a number of wides up to the first water break with Corduff more economical going 0-2 to 0-1 up.
Following the first water break the game was played at a blistering pace with Corduff taking a commanding lead with sharp finishing and stylish scores. Having netted 2 goals in the 25th and 26th minute Corduff were ahead by 4 at halftime on 2-05 to 0-07.
After the restart Corduff continued to dominate the lead and as the 2nd water break approached they had extended their lead by 8 points, 3-09 to 0-10. In the final quarter Corduff’s accuracy and dominance continued as they cruised to victory with more than enough done to win on a soreline of 3-13 to 0-13. Scorers were Feargal Hanratty 2-05, Jason Hand 1-03, Gavin McEnaney 0-3, Pádraic Keenan 0-1 and Shane Hand 0-1. Congratulations to team and management. Victory in this match consolidated their top of table position however with a BYE this weekend all eyes will be on the other matches to see where Corduff Gaels actually finish on the league table ahead of the Quarter and Semi Finals.
